Laser marking of metal
We are happy to take over the laser processing of your parts for you directly on site. Regardless of whether we can manufacture your part completely for you or your part just needs to be labelled.
Benefit from
- Precise and permanent markings (laser engraving/laser labelling)
- Processing of metals and plastics
- extremely delicate structures on many materials
- non-contact and force-free processing without tool wear
- Geometric flexibility and high processing accuracy
LASER MARKING
Application of engravings and labelling from simple to complex and fine structures.
For example: barcodes, QR codes, serial numbers, logos and images. Typical areas of application include type plates, component labelling, markings, operating elements, promotional items, etc.
LASER ENGRAVING
With laser engraving, the marking effect is achieved by removing the material. Depending on the setting of the laser, different engraving depths can be achieved. Laser engraving can be carried out on most metals and some plastics.
At the points where the laser ablates, the material usually heats up at the same time and reacts with the surrounding air. This often results in additional discolouration in the engraving area, which makes the inscription even clearer.
ANNEALING LABELLING
Annealing marking can be applied to ferrous metals such as iron, steel and stainless steel. The material is heated at the relevant points, creating an oxide layer.
In contrast to the other methods, no material is removed during annealing labelling. The inscribed surface therefore remains smooth and leaves no noticeable indentation.
The heating of the annealing labelling usually penetrates 20 to 30 µm deep into the material. As a result, the labelling remains abrasion-resistant and can only be removed by reheating.
Annealing labelling is often black. However, other typical annealing colours can also be produced by changing the temperature.
COLOUR APPLICATION
Very high-contrast marking can be achieved by colour removal.A typical example of this is the laser marking of anodised aluminium parts. Here, the colour difference between the material and the marking is not caused by oxidation, but by simply removing the coloured surface. The result is an inscription in the colour of the base material, while the top layer retains its colour.
This effect can also be achieved by removing other surface coatings such as paints, powder coatings or chrome layers. The more the colour of the base material differs from that of the top coat, the clearer the lettering will be.
COLOUR CHANGE
Colour changes occur during the labelling of plastics.
In plastics, the colour change is caused by the colour pigments and carbons contained in the plastics. The effect of heat destroys the colour pigments and causes the carbons to oxidise, resulting in the evaporation of CO2.This causes the material to foam up, resulting in a light discolouration.
Depending on the composition, the discolouration may be lighter or darker.Dark plastics turn white in the areas to be marked, light plastics turn grey or black.
LASER PROCESSING
Laser machines are not only used for labelling and marking parts, but can also be used for surface processing.
Examples of surface processing include paint and coating removal from surfaces or surface cleaning, such as the removal of adhesive residues, silicone, rubber, vulcanisation residues or oils and greases.
PAINT REMOVAL / PAINT STRIPPING
Removal of paints and varnishes.
Repair work often has to be carried out by gluing, welding, soldering or forming parts. The affected areas must be free of paint and varnish.
Laser ablation is a non-contact process that is gentle on the surface.
