Screws with the following properties can be manufactured:

  Hexagon socket, internal multi-tooth, slotted, cross or according to customer specification (safety screws)
• Material: Free-cutting steel
  Free-cutting steel, stainless steel, steel, aluminium, brass, bronze, titanium, various plastics and special materials.
• Dimensions:
  Diameter: max. 160 mmThread: max. M120
• Strength classes:
  4.8, 5.6, 5.8, 6.8, 8.8, 10.9, 12.9Different hardening processes can be offered on request.
• Machining:
  cold pressing, hot pressing, turning, drilling, grinding, slotting, stamping
• Surface finishes:
  bright, galvanised, nickel-plated, phosphated, thick-film passivated, zinc flake coating, PTFE and other.
  

The manufacturing process can also vary depending on the application and requirements for the screw. Several conditions must be checked in order to be able to prepare a quotation. For this reason, the following questions must be clarified. What geometry or dimensions does the special screw have? Is special machining required? How precise should a special screw be or what material should it be made from?

Studs, fitting screws, expansion screws, slotted screws, inch screws, hexagon socket screws, square head screws, hexagon head screws, raised countersunk head screws, round head screws, hollow screws, etc.

Special screws & special screws in reworking

We realise standard-like screws by reworking standard screws. Our expertise enables optimum reworking, economically and effectively. Even small quantities are possible!

Production options:

• Turning a shank or realising recesses
• Shortening the screws, whether head or thread
• Drilling holes, whether transverse or longitudinal
• Turning taps
• ...

For larger quantities, we consider the option of complete new production. We will pass on any price advantages to you accordingly.

Abnormal screws

What are standardised screws based on DIN or ISO?
Standard-like screws are screws for which there is no standardised design. Consequently, there is no suitable standardised screw. For this reason, a special screw is developed. The extent to which the screw differs from a standard depends on the application. For example, there are applications where only a shank is attached or a cross hole is required. These designs are therefore very close to a standard screw, but are still not standard. Depending on the application or special acceptance requirements, a standard screw may quickly no longer be sufficient.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Who needs special screws?
Special screws are mostly used in industry, such as mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, the electronics industry and plant engineering. This involves special solutions, special materials, special surfaces or approvals. What characterises special screws? Very often these are pivots, bores, special fitting shafts, dimensions, grooves and cross bores. One of P+V's main specialisms is special screws for mechanical engineering!

How are special screws manufactured?

There are three main manufacturing processes used to produce special screws:

• Hot forming / hot forging
• Cold forming / cold fordging
• Machining production

Which manufacturing process is used depends on the size or geometry, material and batch size. A distinction is made between two types of forming. The distinguishing feature lies in the behaviour of the materials at different temperatures.

Hot forging
Hot forging is the forming of parts in a hot state. In the warm state, the formability is better and requires less force. The raw part is shaped using customised forming tools.

Cold forging
Below the recrystallisation temperature, this is referred to as cold forming. During cold forming, the workpiece is not heated. The forming process is referred to as work hardening. Changes in microstructure and properties occur. Cold forming is more precise and achieves a higher surface quality. However, a higher forming force is required than with hot forming.

Machining
The machining production of special screws mainly takes place on lathes. Material is removed from a blank/workpiece with the aid of a cutting tool. The workpiece usually rotates at several thousand revolutions. The material is removed by the tool cutting edge engaging with the material. The desired shape is realised depending on the movement of the tool or workpiece.
